Important Treatment Considerations
SYNVISC is indicated for the treatment of pain in
osteoarthritis of the knee in
patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative
non-pharmacologic therapy and simple analgesics, e.g.,
SYNVISC is generally well tolerated; however, it may not work for
everyone. The most commonly reported side effects are temporary
pain, swelling, and/or fluid accumulation in the injected knee. If
fluid accumulation is large or painful, call your doctor. Other side
effects, such as rash, have been reported rarely. Before you begin
your treatment with SYNVISC, advise your doctor if you are allergic
to products from birds, such as feathers, eggs, or poultry, or your
leg is swollen or infected. You should avoid strenuous or prolonged
weight-bearing activities after treatment. The safety and
effectiveness of SYNVISC in children or in women who are pregnant or
breastfeeding have not been tested. It is not known whether SYNVISC
is passed into breast milk.
SYNVISC is a therapy for the local treatment of pain associated with
osteoarthritis of the knee. SYNVISC is a widely accepted, safe
and effective therapy that can provide long lasting pain relief for
knee osteoarthritis. SYNVISC can be an alternative to prescription medications
such as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories including COX-2
inhibitors) and intra-articular steroids.
Successful treatment with SYNVISC can help reduce
or stop pain in an osteoarthritic knee, may increase mobility, and
may allow for a higher and more comfortable level of activity.
Pain relief can last for up to six months: you
may begin to feel relief after the first injection, but maximum
results usually occur 8-12 weeks after the first injection.
Individual results may vary.
SYNVISC is a pill-free treatment that is injected
directly into the knee.
